How to use the Vaporesso Xros 6: screen, modes and the right pod

The Vaporesso Xros 6 vape kit includes the device, a 0.6 ohm and a 0.8 ohm Xros Corex pod, a USB-C cable and a user manual. Both pods are 2ml, top filling and have built-in mesh coils.

Inside is a large 1800mAh battery that can last up to a full day and charges fully in 45 minutes. The output range is 5 to 30W, there is a 0.88 inch TFT screen, and the device weighs 74g.

Out of the box you can vape MTL with one pod and RDTL with the other, so you can find your style before buying spares.

Fill one of the pods through its top port, push the mouthpiece back on and let it sit for five minutes so the mesh coil soaks. Then insert it into the Xros 6.

You can now inhale on the mouthpiece or press and hold the button to vape. Having both options is handy: auto draw for quick puffs, the button for a more deliberate draw.

The screen gives you the information you need at a glance, including which mode is active. Use the airflow slider to change how loose or tight the inhale feels; MTL fans usually close it most of the way.

The Xros 6 has three modes. Eco Mode conserves battery life, Normal Mode is designed to give a consistent vape, and Power Mode delivers maximum flavour.

With the 0.4 ohm Xros pod only, sold separately, you can also use Variable Wattage Mode. That pod runs up to 30W and is best for a looser, cloudier draw.

All Vaporesso Xros Corex pods fit, from 0.4 to 1.2 ohm. The 0.8 ohm included pod is designed for MTL vaping, while the 0.6 ohm suits RDTL. Higher resistance pods such as 1.0 and 1.2 ohm give an even tighter, lower power vape.

Vaporesso recommends 50% VG e-liquid for both included pods. Nic salts and 50/50 freebase fall into this category and suit the Xros 6 perfectly.

For the 0.8 ohm MTL pod, a nic salt at 10mg or 20mg gives a smooth, satisfying draw. The 0.6 ohm RDTL pod makes more vapour per puff, so many people drop to a lower strength. Nicotine is addictive, and higher vapour means more nicotine per puff at the same strength.

If you buy a 0.4 ohm pod for Variable Wattage, switch to a thicker liquid; the Corex pod listing recommends 70% VG or above for that pod.

• Power Mode drains the battery: it is built for flavour, not stamina. Swap to Eco for long days away from a charger.
• Variable Wattage will not appear: it only works with the 0.4 ohm pod. Fit one and it becomes available.
• Dry or burnt hits: the pod is low or was not primed. Refill above a third and give a new pod five minutes.

With 45 minute charging, short top-ups are easy. Charge before the battery is empty and keep the device out of heat. A cell that lives on a sunny dashboard loses capacity far sooner than one kept in a coat pocket.

The Xros 6 is for vapers who want a refillable pod kit with a screen, three modes and both button and auto draw, without stepping up to a full mod. Two pods in the box let you try MTL and RDTL from day one.

For something smaller with no screen, the Xros 5 Mini uses the same pods. If you want an even bigger battery and DTL, the Xros Pro 2 carries 2000mAh.
