How to use the Innokin Adept Zlide: the tough MTL kit, set up right

3 min readUpdated 3 Oct 2026By the Spectrum Vaping team

Slide the top open, fill the 2ml tank, and the Adept reads the coil and sets the wattage itself. It is waterproof, dustproof and shockproof, so it is the kit to take where pod kits go to die.

The short version

  • Smart chipset detects the coil and picks the wattage within 11 to 17W.
  • Set it yourself: 11 to 14W for coils above 1.0 ohm, 14 to 17W below 1.0 ohm.
  • Two Z coils included: 1.6 ohm and 0.48 ohm.
  • Use 50% PG or higher e-liquid in the Zlide tank.

What comes in the box

The Innokin Adept Zlide kit includes the Innokin Adept 3000mAh mod, the 2ml Zlide tank, a USB charging cable, a user manual and two coils: a 1.6 ohm Z coil and a 0.48 ohm Z coil.

The Adept mod is rugged: waterproof, dustproof and shockproof, with a soft-touch rubber finish that sits well in the hand. Its large 3000mAh battery supports 2A fast charging.

All that toughness has a cost in weight: the kit is 215g, so it is more jacket pocket than jeans pocket.

Filling the Zlide tank

The Zlide uses a sliding top fill, which makes refilling quick and clean. Slide the top open, fill to just below the top, and slide it shut.

Before the first puff on a new coil, prime it with a few drops of liquid directly onto the cotton, fill the tank, and give it five minutes to soak. This matters even more on the 0.48 ohm coil, which heats faster.

The tank has adjustable dual airflow. Close it down for a tighter, cigarette-like draw with the 1.6 ohm coil; open it a little for the 0.48 ohm coil to keep the vapour cool.

  3. Fill and closeStop just below the top.
  4. Wait five minutesLet the wick soak.
  5. Set the airflowTighter for 1.6 ohm, a touch more open for 0.48 ohm.

Smart Mode and manual wattage

The Adept's chipset automatically detects the coil's resistance and selects a wattage to suit. For most people, that is all they ever need.

If you want to fine-tune, you can select your own output: 11 to 14W for coils above 1.0 ohm, and 14 to 17W for coils below 1.0 ohm. So the 1.6 ohm coil lives in the lower range and the 0.48 ohm coil in the upper.

Start at the bottom of the range and step up a watt at a time until the flavour peaks. If it turns harsh, step back down. Your manual shows the button presses for adjusting power.

Coils and e-liquid

The Zlide takes Innokin Z coils. The Z coil listing confirms the Adept Zlide and Zlide tank, and gives ratings such as 1.6 ohm at 9 to 12W and 0.48 ohm at 12 to 16W.

When used with the Adept, the Zlide gives a mouth to lung vape with discreet vapour, and Innokin says the tank works best with high PG e-liquids of 50% PG or higher. That makes nic salts and 50/50 freebase the right choice.

Nicotine is addictive, so pick a strength that matches what you use now. Note that Z coils are not compatible with devices needing Innokin ZF coils.

Three common problems and battery tips

  • Burnt hit on the 0.48 ohm coil: wattage set too high or a dry wick. Return to Smart Mode or the bottom of the 14 to 17W band, and prime new coils properly.
  • Leaking: the sliding top is not fully closed, or the airflow is wide open with thin liquid. Close the top firmly and tighten the airflow.
  • Weak flavour: an ageing coil. Swap it; Z coils come in five-packs.

The 3000mAh battery lasts a long time, and 2A charging refills it quickly. Charge before it is flat and avoid leaving it in a hot car, toughness notwithstanding.

You fit the 1.6 ohm Z coil and want to set the wattage yourself. Which band should you use?

Who the Adept Zlide suits

The Adept Zlide is for MTL vapers who are hard on their kit: builders, walkers, festival-goers, or anyone who has drowned a pod kit before. The waterproof, shockproof mod and the 3000mAh battery make it a workhorse.

It is heavy and only goes to 17W, so it is not for cloud chasers. If you want a lighter MTL tank kit, the Endura T18E is a slim pen from the same maker. For variable wattage and temperature control, the Aspire Zelos 3 offers far more settings.

For pure durability, though, the Adept is hard to beat.
