A cracked tank glass is not just untidy. It can leak e-liquid onto your hands and battery, and a split edge can be sharp. The good news: on most tanks the glass is a cheap, swappable part and takes five minutes to change.

Make it safe first
Even a hairline crack can weep liquid down onto the 510 connection and the mod, and liquid around a battery is never a good idea. Larger cracks can drop shards or leave sharp edges.
Empty the tank into a spare bottle or tissue over the sink, unscrew it from the mod, and wipe the 510 connection and the top of the mod dry. Handle the glass by the metal sections, not the cracked part.
Wrap any loose pieces of broken glass in a few sheets of paper before putting them in the bin. If you cut yourself, wash the area and treat it as you would any small cut.

What cracked it?

Over-tightening is the one people rarely suspect. Tank glass sits between O-rings, and when the base or top cap is cranked down hard, the pressure is enough to crack it, especially as the metal warms and expands during use.
Plastic tanks and pod bodies are a different story. Some acidic or spicy flavours, such as strong citrus and cinnamon, are widely reported to craze certain plastics, leaving fine cracks that spread. If that matches your kit, consider a glass tank instead.
How did the crack appear?
Impact cracks are just bad luck. A silicone band or sleeve around the glass helps protect the next one.

Some citrus, cinnamon and similar flavours attack certain plastics. Use a glass tank for those liquids.
Hot water on cold glass, or a harsh cleaner, can crack or craze it. Use lukewarm water only.
Swapping in new glass
Most sub-ohm and MTL tanks are designed so the glass can be replaced. It sits between the base and top cap, sealed by O-rings at each end, and comes out once those are unscrewed.
The replacement must be made for your exact tank. A glass that is a millimetre too short leaks; too long and it will not close. Check the model name on the tank or box against our spare glass range before ordering.
In the UK, tanks are limited to 2ml under TPD rules, so the standard glass for UK tanks is sized to match. Fit new O-rings at the same time if the old ones look flat.

Keep the next glass intact
Glass is tougher than it looks when it is fitted properly and treated sensibly. These habits cut down on cracks.
Hand-tight is the rule for every threaded part of a tank. If you feel the need to use pliers, stop and check the threads and O-rings instead, because something is misaligned.
