Two dual 18650 box mods, two pounds apart. The Aegis Legend 5 goes higher at 200W and is built to shrug off knocks, dust and water; the Drag 5 is lighter with temperature control and 2A fast charging. Here is how to choose your next daily mod.
The short version
- Drag 5: £42.99, 5 to 177W, temperature control, 2A fast charge, 157g.
- Aegis Legend 5: £44.99, 5 to 200W, shock resistant, dustproof and waterproof, 175g.
- Both need two 18650 batteries, sold separately, and both have a 510 connection.
- Rough and ready lifestyle? Legend. Want to tinker with modes? Drag.
Side by side
These are two of the most talked-about box mods of their generation, and they target the same vaper: someone who runs a sub-ohm tank, likes big clouds and wants a mod that lasts.
The Voopoo Drag 5 runs from 5 to 177W, adds temperature control and charges at 2A over USB-C. The Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 runs from 5 to 200W and is built to be shock resistant, dustproof and waterproof.
Both take two 18650 batteries and both have a standard 510 connection, so either will run almost any tank you already own.
Power: does 200W beat 177W?
On paper the Legend has 23W more headroom. In practice, very few commercial sub-ohm coils ask for more than about 100W, and most mesh coils at 0.15 to 0.2 ohm sit happily between 50 and 90W.
Ohm's law explains why. Power equals voltage squared divided by resistance, so a 0.15 ohm coil at 70W needs about 3.2V and pulls around 21A through the coil. Push to 150W and you are well beyond what most tanks are built for.
So the extra wattage is headroom rather than a feature you will use daily. Either mod will run any sub-ohm tank on our shelves comfortably. Try the calculator below with your coil's resistance.
That is about 17W and draws 4.6A from the battery
Build and features
The Aegis name has always meant toughness, and the Legend 5 keeps that tradition. Shock resistance, dust protection and waterproofing make it the mod for builders, festival-goers, dog walkers and anyone who has ever dropped a mod down the stairs.
The Drag 5 leans toward features. Temperature control lets you cap the coil's heat with compatible wire, and 2A fast charging gets the cells back up quickly without pulling them out. It is also 18g lighter.
Both have a display screen and variable wattage, and both work in MTL or DTL depending on the tank. Pair either with a tank such as the Geekvape Z Subohm Tank 5.

Battery safety, whichever you buy
Both mods ship without batteries, so you need two good-quality 18650 cells. This is the part of mod ownership that deserves real care.
Always use a matched pair: same brand, same model, bought together and always charged together. Never mix an old cell with a new one. Check each wrap for nicks or tears before it goes in, because a torn wrap on a high-drain cell can short.
If you prefer charging outside the mod, an external battery charger is gentler on the cells and lets you rotate a spare pair. Carry loose cells in a plastic case, never loose in a pocket with keys or coins.
Voopoo Drag 5
The Drag 5 is Voopoo's pitch for a first sub-ohm mod that you will not outgrow. Smart modes make it easy on day one; temperature control and fine wattage steps give you room to play later.
It comes in Silver, Sakura Pink, Sunset Orange, Gradient Brown and Green, and at 157g it is a comfortable size for most hands.
Remember that more power means more liquid. A dual cell mod running a sub-ohm tank at 70W goes through e-liquid quickly, so most people pair it with shortfills at around 3mg.
Geekvape Aegis Legend 5
The Legend 5 comes in eight finishes, from Carbon Black and Glacier Green to Racing Gold and Aurora Rainbow. If you want the complete setup, Geekvape also sell a Legend 5 kit with the Z Subohm Tank 5.
Its tougher build adds 18g over the Drag, which most people will not notice once a tank is on top. What you will notice is how little you worry about it on a building site or a camping trip.
The verdict: if your mod lives a hard life, buy the Legend. If it lives on a desk and you like features, buy the Drag.
